AUDIOSCIENCE ADDS TWO NEW ADAPTERS TO THEIR ASI6500/6600 SERIES

NEWCASTLE, DE (August 10, 2007)  –  AudioScience, Inc., a leader of professional audio peripherals for the broadcast and entertainment industries, announced the addition of two new audio adapters to their ASI6500 and ASI6600 series: the ASI6518 and the ASI6618.

AudioScience debuted the ASI6500 line; faster and smaller form factor versions of their popular ASI6000 series, and the ASI6600 series, the world’s first PCI Express audio adapters, last year. Adding to those lines, the ASI6518 and ASI6618 utilizes a Texas Instruments 300MHz floating point DSP, giving the added dimension of making more play streams available. This is of particular note to those working in the multichannel world; due to this technology, these new adapters are now able to play four virtual surround sound streams to two physical surround sound outputs.

The ASI6518/ASI6618 features eight or sixteen stereo streams of playback to eight stereo outputs, one stereo record from one stereo input, and the adapters have both balanced analog and AES/EBU I/O. Hardware sample rate converters are on the AES/EBU input and dedicated AES/EBU and Word Clock sync input are also standard. Supported audio formats are PCM, MPEG-Layer2 and MP3 with sample rates to 96kHz. AudioScience includes their pioneering MRX (multi-rate mixing), TSX (time scaling) and SSX2 (multichannel playback) technologies on the new adapters.

The ASI6618 is a PCI Express version of the ASI6518 with the same capabilities.

“The faster DSP on the ASI6518 and ASI6618 allows for up to sixteen stereo play streams that can be played and mixed simultaneously,” notes Richard Gross, president of AudioScience. “This presents greater flexibility to our customers and, for the first time ever, we are offering four multichannel plays mixed to two multichannel outputs by means of our SSX2 technology.”
